Significant Incidents
CRIT Narcotics Search Warrant Leads to Arrest
On January 21, 2025, the CRIT executed a search warrant at 5889 Pierce St as part of a narcotics investigation. Through collaboration with other units, CRIT established probable cause and executed the warrant, leading to the seizure of fentanyl pills and the arrest of a suspect. Additionally, the property owner is pursuing eviction proceedings against the involved residents. This operation was a critical step in curbing drug distribution near Olde Town.
Arson Investigation Leads to Arrest
On January 15, 2025, at 6:24 am, officers responded to a structure fire on the 8700 block of W 54th Pl. A shed on a covered porch next to a multi-residence structure was engulfed in flames, spreading to the porch ceiling. Arvada Fire quickly extinguished the fire. Investigators identified a male suspect and on January 24, the Community Response Impact Team (CRIT), with assistance from Denver PD, located suspect in a Denver apartment. He was arrested and transported the suspect to Jefferson County Jail without incident.
Juvenile Arrested in Auto Theft Investigation
Arvada officers have responded to multiple incidents at a Lake Arbor residence involving a 14-year-old male suspected of auto thefts and burglaries. Following a reported Kia theft on January 8, 2025, a suspect matching the juvenile’s description was seen driving a similar vehicle. Westminster PD recovered the stolen Kia on January 12. Arvada PD later recovered a stolen Hyundai near the juvenile’s home, and on January 23, a stolen Kia was detected by a Flock camera. Later that day, Colorado Metropolitan Auto Theft Taskforce detectives arrested the juvenile while he was driving the stolen Kia in Westminster. The investigation is ongoing.
Illegal Puppy Sales Stopped in Arvada
Animal Management Officers (AMOs) responded to reports of illegal puppy sales at a residence on the 5300 block of Carr St. Five 8-week-old German Shepherd/Lab mix puppies were being sold on Craigslist for $750 each. AMOs met with the resident, educated them on Arvada’s laws prohibiting the sale of animals without a kennel license, and ensured all puppies were surrendered to Foothills Animal Shelter for adoption. The puppies will soon be available for new homes.
Officer-Involved Shooting
On January 26, 2025, at approximately 3:40 am, Arvada officers encountered a stolen vehicle in an alley near Kipling Parkway. The suspect entered the vehicle, refused to exit, and fired multiple rounds at officers. Officers returned fire, striking the suspect. The suspect was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries and later identified as Phou Thone Onemanivoung (DOB 02-20-1982), who had felony warrants and a lengthy criminal history. Onemanivoung died from his injuries at 3:53 pm. The Jefferson County Critical Incident Response Team continues its investigation. Three officers involved in the incident are on administrative leave per APD policy. More information will be released as the investigation progresses.
